With the incorporation of the University of Tokyo from April 2004, any new inventions developed at the University will in principle become the property of the institution. Based on an outsourcing contract signed with the University of Tokyo, TOUDAI TLO (CASTI) will provide all operations related to securing intellectual property rights for the University. From April 2004, researchers are to notify the Office of University Corporate Relations of any new inventions. On the same day, the OUCR will then notify CASTI. Based on this information, CASTI will send an associate to visit the researcher and to conduct a detailed interview on the invention. Once factors such as the patent potential and marketability of the invention have been explored, CASTI will determine the best course for approaching the patent process. As before, CASTI will then market the intellectual property rights thus obtained to industry and handle licensing activities. We will continue to play a bridging role between the University and industry, as contact point for the industrial sector, so please feel free to contact us with any queries about partnership between industry and the University. |
