Research Interests:
International Strategy on Cancer Research in the Era of Globalization The purpose of the Endowed Chair is to engage in comparative study of the characteristics of cancer in Asia and those of Europe and the United States and use the results to contribute to an improvement in international cancer research, with a focus on Asia.

1. Cancer and Lifestyle Environment Factors (Information)
In Asia and Western countries study of prostate and breast cancers and other cancers that have significantly different epidemiology is focused on identifying the differences in rates of incidence and mortality and factors that cause these rates to fluctuate.

2. Cancer Prevention Strategy (Prevention)
With prostate cancer, androgen regulation is known to be an important factor, and the relationship with soybean isoflavone metabolism that has been identified to date continues to be studied and further clarified. Asia is home to diverse cultures, including eating habits that have developed over the course of Asia’s long history and therefore cannot be simply categorized under the catch-all phrase globalization.

3. Study of Safe and Effective Treatment Methods (Clinical trials, R&D)
Among the newly developed anti-cancer drugs and molecularly targeted agents, the effectiveness and side effects of a good number of these demonstrate a unique profile for Asian people. engaging in comparative analysis of clinical and genomic data, we will aim to make recommendations on the safer and more effective use of anti-cancer drugs and molecularly-targeted drugs.

4. Research for Policy Recommendations (Policy Research)
In the Asia Cancer Forum (http://www.asiacancerforum.org/) discussion has been launched that focuses on a theme that is currently not sufficiently addressed in the area of cancer, namely policy proposals for placing cancer on the global health agenda. In addition to practical analysis about how to achieve the inclusion of cancer as an additional item in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of the United Nations, as academics we seek to further examine the universal challenges that must be addressed by the life sciences, for which we must gather broad-ranging data.

This will also lead us to consider the issue of the public and international nature of knowledge, the concept of which is an integral part of the universal challenges.
