Information on Entrance Examination
The entrance examination for the graduate courses is taken in August and January in general.
Unless an applicant has obtained a master's degree or expects to earn a master's degree from the Graduate School at the University of Tokyo, the applicant must submit TOEFL scores. Exceptions may be made for special cases; for detailed information, contact the Office of Research Cooperation, RCAST.
Before requesting application forms, applicants are advised to contact the corresponding department and inquire whether you can find an appropriate supervisor.
To request the application forms and materials, applicants are advised to send a request letter including your name, address, academic career, research theme and the name of the department, to the contact address written below. Please be sure to enclose a self-addressed return envelope with 390 yen stamps for applicants residing in Japan, or with International Reply Coupons (IRC: 700 - 1,000 yen) for applicants residing abroad. (The applications are only in Japanese.)

How to Apply
The periods for acceptance of applications shall be divided into two categories - Application Schedule A and Application Schedule B - as indicated below (2).
Applicants shall not be prevented from applying during both Acceptance Periods, but persons wishing to enter the School in October 2013 shall be subject to the limitations of Application Schedule A.
(1) Applications must be sent by postal mail. Use registered mail, and include all documents for submission in the envelope designated by the Graduate School.
(2) Period for acceptance of applications
Application Schedule A: July 2 (Tuesday) to 10 (Wednesday), 2013.
(Applications will be considered valid, however, if they are postdated no later than July 10 (Wednesday) and arrive no later than July 12 (Friday).)
Application Schedule B: November 25 (Monday) to December 5 (Thursday), 2013.
(Applications will be considered valid, however, if they are postdated no later than December 5 (Thursday) and arrive no later than December 9 (Monday).)
