Komaba Open Laboratory (KOL) was established on April 1, 1998, with the aim of providing researchers in the University of Tokyo with research spaces for a certain period to facilitate to conduct collaborative joint projects. Its new building with the floor space of 4000 square meters are now under construction by way of a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) enterprise to be completed in March, 2005, conveniently located adjacently to the RCAST. The new building allows the KOL to accelerate to provide necessary facilities and environments for groups of researchers from academia, industry, and government home and abroad to conduct multi-disciplinary or inter-disciplinary projects that have been so far difficult to conduct in existing departments or research organizations. |
