The social impact of advanced science and technology is growing. It goes far beyond domestic economies, policies, education and culture, extending throughout international society. This department focuses an this growing influence of the development and diffusion of science and technology through an interdisciplinary methodology based on the social sciences, the humanities and the natural sciences and engineering. Grounded in such fields as history, economics and anthropology, analysis of scientific inquiry and technological innovation is carried out. Based an this analysis, research is performed on the policies necessary for society to benefit from the development and diffusion of science and technology. This program is conceptualized by the phrase "research on research." It is a program that serves well to complement the research into advanced science and technology undertaken by the other departments at RCAST.
