2016 Visit of Students from Munich University, Germany

On the 12th of September 2016, ten students from Munich University, Germany, visited the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST) with a coordinator from Munich University.

After a briefing and introduction to RCAST, the students toured the following two laboratories: Segawa Lab (Energy and Environment) and Iwabuchi Lab (Assistive Information Technology, Barrier Free). At first, this year's students gave us a very calm and passive impression. However, they began to gradually show interest in our research as the professors gave a detailed description, and finally they gave positive responses to the demonstrations and explanations, such as by actively answering the professors' questions. When leaving RCAST, the students looked very satisfied.

The University of Tokyo and Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich have had an agreement on scientific, educational and cultural cooperation since 1997. Since then, students of Munich University have visited Japan almost every summer to interchange with the students of liberal arts at the University of Tokyo who almost

every summer to interchange with the students of liberal arts at the University of Tokyo who are learning German. This time, the students' majors were various: chemistry, physics, media information, business administration, German literature, archaeology, education economics, library science. Because RCAST has diverse research fields, it makes it possible to conduct an interesting tour for students with any background. Therefore, we always receive positive feedback from the students on our tour. We hope that this exchange program will be a good opportunity for RCAST to be known more worldwide, and also for students from foreign countries to become interested in interdisciplinary research.
