Gathering for Young Researchers, RCAST

  • RCAST Report

September 16, 2015

The meeting took place on 3rd September, and 18 RCAST researchers (Research Associate and Project Research Associate) joined in it. This meeting is the second gathering, in fact, the 1st one was held in April. One of RCAST's distinctions is "Diversity", owing to its wide variety of specialized fields. Indeed this is a remarkable characteristic of our institute, but sometimes it is difficult communicate to their colleagues working in the other laboratory for many RCAST's researchers, due to their different background. So, we organized this gathering, hoping that it will provide opportunities for the young people to deepen their relationship. And we hope also that the researchers participating into this gathering can find seeds for their collaborative research activities, in future.
This event commenced with a short presentation from the organizer, Strategic Planning Office, on an internal grant scheme to promote the young people's challenges. Then, 2 researchers’presentation on their works followed: Cognitive Science (Watanabe Lab.)(*1) and New Energy (Okada lab.)(*2). Those 2 guys guided the participants to their laboratory and showed them the labs' facilities.

(*1) The outline of presentation by Watanabe laboratory; Demonstration of the experiment for optical illusion, using the glasses for measuring eyes’movement.

(*2) The outline of presentation by Okada laboratory; Short lecture on basis of Photovoltaic mechanism on solar cells and demonstration of their highly complex facilities (e.g. Molecular Beam Epitaxy system, Femtosecond laser spectroscopy, etc.)

After "Lab Visit", the participants returned to the meeting place (RCAST cafe) and made self-introduction. Almost all of them met for the first time, however they seemed, relaxed through the lab visit. Next was mini-group discussion time. The main issue of this part was to talk on “What we ask/hope to Strategic Management Office"(*3). Their voices resumed at this discussion were reported to the management office soon, (and some of the matters had been already settled). The 3rd meeting is scheduled for 2nd Dec.
Strategic Planning Office tends to hold a gathering regularly.

(*3) Professional Management Group of RCAST, headed by Director and composed of several faculty members assigned by Director.
