The Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST), The University of Tokyo, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AthenaLAB, a prominent think tank headquartered in Santiago, Chile, recognized for its policy research in international politics and security. Under this MOU, the Economic Security Intelligence Lab (ESIL) at RCAST will collaborate with AthenaLAB on joint research in economic security, such as: studies on the potential for policy cooperation between Japan, Chile, and the broader South American region; analyses of economic security challenges and policy trends in South America as part of the “Global South”; and research on the status of and countermeasures against disinformation and influence operations in Japan and South America. In addition, the collaboration will include researcher exchanges, co-hosting international symposiums, and co-authored publications to enhance international outreach. Youth-oriented programs will also be developed to cultivate the next generation of experts. Through these initiatives, the partnership seeks to deepen grassroots academic and policy research, enhance Japan’s presence in South America, and contribute to mutual understanding and the further development of bilateral relations between Japan and Chile. |
