The Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST), The University of Tokyo, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Research Institute for Democracy, Society, and Emerging Technology (DSET), a prominent think tank headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan. Under this MOU, the Economic Security Intelligence Lab (ESIL) at RCAST will collaborate with DSET, which brings together leading experts in international politics in Taiwan and East Asia. The partnership will focus on joint research in economic security, such as: comparative studies on policies for the promotion, protection, and partnership of advanced technologies; cooperation between Japan and Taiwan on critical infrastructure including undersea cables; and research on the status of and countermeasures against disinformation and influence operations in Japan and Taiwan. In addition, the collaboration will include researcher exchanges, co-hosting international symposiums, and co-authored publications to enhance international outreach. Youth-oriented programs will also be developed to cultivate the next generation of experts. Through these initiatives, the partnership seeks to deepen grassroots academic and policy research, enhance Japan’s presence in East Asia, and contribute to mutual understanding and the further development of bilateral relations between Japan and Taiwan. |
