Principal areas of collaboration

The Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST), The University of Tokyo, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Geocase, a prominent think tank headquartered in Tbilisi, Georgia. Under this MOU, the Economic Security Intelligence Lab (ESIL) at RCAST will collaborate with Geocase, which brings together leading experts in international politics in Georgia and the South Caucasus. The partnership will focus on joint research in economic security, such as: critical infrastructure and supply chains in the Black Sea region, which is becoming increasingly important as a transportation hub; economic security policy cooperation between Japan and the South Caucasus; and research on the status of and countermeasures against disinformation and influence operations in Japan and the South Caucasus. In addition, the collaboration will include researcher exchanges, co-hosting international symposiums, and co-authored publications to enhance international outreach. Youth-oriented programs will also be developed to cultivate the next generation of experts. Through these initiatives, the partnership seeks to deepen grassroots academic and policy research, enhance Japan’s presence in the South Caucasus, and contribute to mutual understanding and the further development of bilateral relations between Japan and Georgia.
