Principal areas of collaboration

The Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST), The University of Tokyo, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Utrikespolitiska institutet (UI), a prominent think tank headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. Under this MOU, the Economic Security Intelligence Lab (ESIL) at RCAST will collaborate with Utrikespolitiska institutet (UI), which is one of Sweden’s oldest think tanks specializing in international affairs and public policy. The partnership will focus on joint research in economic security: studies on the potential for policy cooperation between Japan, Sweden, and the Nordic countries; collaboration with the Swedish National China Centre (NKK) established within UI; and research on critical technology cooperation. In addition, the collaboration will include researcher exchanges, co-hosting international symposiums, and co-authored publications to enhance international outreach. Youth-oriented programs will also be developed to cultivate the next generation of experts. Through these initiatives, the partnership seeks to deepen grassroots academic and policy research, enhance Japan’s presence in the Nordic countries, and contribute to mutual understanding and the further development of bilateral relations between Japan and Sweden.
