Quantifying quanta
Elementary quantum-computing device used to observe quanta in propagating microwaves

Professor Yasunobu Nakamura, Assistant Professor Yutaka Tabuchi, graduate student Shingo Kono at Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, the University of Tokyo and its collaborators have demonstrated that magnons--the smallest units of energy, quanta, of collective spin motions in a millimeter-sized magnet--and the microwave photons in a transmission line can be measured as discrete units using a quantum-bit device based on a superconducting circuit as a detector. The current results hold promise of leading to the development of new high-resolution sensor technologies in the future.

The proof of the contribution of mineralocorticoid receptor pathway in blood pressure maintenance during salt restriction
------------------------------------------------------------
Project Researcher Daigoro Hirohama and Emeritus Professor Toshiro Fujita at Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, the University of Tokyo have demonstrated that the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR)-pendrin system, which plays a role in regulating fluid volume in vivo, contributes to maintaining normal blood pressure during salt restriction.
