RCAST Open Lab for Research on Emergent Strategies (ROLES) of the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST) at the University of Tokyo will host a delegation organized by the Institute for Global Security and Defense Affairs (IGSDA) headed by Dr. Sayed Goneim from Abu Dhabi, UAE for a one-day workshop which will be held on May 18, 2026.
The war in Iran, which began on February 28, 2026, has once again made it clear that security in the Persian/Arabian Gulf and the secure passage of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as stability in the Red Sea and the Strait of Bab al-Mandeb, are matters of vital importance for Japan’s energy security.
In this precious occasion of hosting the IGSDA delegation whose expertises cover these vital areas of the Gulf and the Red Sea regions from military and security point of views, ROLES organizes a comprehensive discussion and exploration to examine the repercussions of the Iran War in these regions and the military, political, and diplomatic moves of key regional powers with the aim of searching for the path Japan should take in the renewed context affected by the recent conflicts and transformation in the region.
