Zhao Ruoxi (Second-Year Doctoral Student) of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Systems Receives the Best Student Oral Communication Award at MOC2026
【Award Recipient】
Zhao Ruoxi, Second-Year Doctoral Student Iwamoto Laboratory, Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Systems, Graduate School of Engineering
【Award Name】
Best Student Oral Communication
【Eligibility for the award】
High-Q (>1 Million) Quadrupole Modes in H1 Photonic Crystal Nanocavities“
【Name of awarding institution】
The 31th Microoptics Conference (MOC2026)
【Date of Award】
September 30, 2026
【Description of the award-winning research】
High quality factor (Q-factor) is essential for enhancing light-matter interaction in a photonic crystal (PhC) nanocavity. Among various PhC cavity designs, the H1 nanocavity has attracted considerable attention because it provides a compact platform for studying degenerate optical modes. In this study, we propose an H1 PhC nanocavity design that supports two degenerate TE quadrupole modes with Q-factors exceeding 1 million. To the best of our knowledge, this value represents the highest Q-factor ever reported for quadrupole modes in H1 PhC nanocavities.

【Acceptance Remarks】
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Professor Satoshi Iwamoto for his continuous support and guidance, as well as to all our lab members who have helped me overcome challenges throughout my research. Their valuable advice has helped me not only deepen my understanding and draw more accurate conclusions in my research, but also improve my ability to communicate my findings effectively in presentations.
【Future Aspirations and Reflections】
I am deeply grateful for this recognition and for the support and guidance I have received from Professor Satoshi Iwamoto and all our lab members. Receiving this award is a great honor which motivates me to further develop myself. Moving forward, I will continue to work hard and strive to make meaningful contributions to academia and society through my research.
