“Japan-Israel Joint Symposium on Atmospheric Dynamics and Climate” was held on September 25 through 27 at the ENEOS Hall (RCAST), where totally 29 scientists and graduate students from Japan and Israel presented the latest results of their research. This symposium was supported by the JSPS-ISF Joint Research Project. Last year, Professor Yohai Kaspi of the Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS) hosted the symposium, and Professor Hisashi Nakamura and his group visited WIS and Tel Aviv University to foster bilateral collaboration.

This year, six experts from WIS and Tel Aviv University visited Japan. On the Japanese side, in addition to the host Nakamura Laboratory, participants from Kosaka Laboratory of RCAST, Graduate School of Science, University of Tokyo, Hokkaido University, Oberlin University, Mie University, Kyushu University, Meteorological Research Institute, and Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology participated the joint workshop. After opening remarks by Prof. Nakamura, individual participants presented their latest works, followed by intensive discussions. At the lunch break on the second day, the participants toured the wooden wind tunnel at Building #1.

On the final day, Political Counselor Ido Bromberg from the Israeli Embassy in Tokyo joined the workshop to make a remark on the increasing importance of understanding climate dynamics given the occurrence of extreme weather events around the world. He also paid tribute to scientists, citing COP28, which will be held in Dubai in November and December this year, and emphasizing the significance of the bilateral collaboration that can lead to better decision making on mitigation and adjustment for the climate change.
