On the 11th of September in 2014, seven students from Munich University, Germany, visited the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST), accompanied with a coordinator from Munich Univ. and three students of the University of Tokyo.

This year, we presented the following three laboratories’ research activities for this program: Nakamura-Usami Lab (Quantum Information Physics and Engineering), Segawa Lab (Energy and Environment), Hamakubo Lab (Quantitative Biology and Medicine). Those are related to the wide variety of the students’ research fields such as physics, medicine, information science, computational linguistics, teacher-training course. After a briefing and introduction to RCAST by Research Associate Rekishu Yamazaki (Nakamura-Usami Lab), they toured these three laboratories. Although before the tour they hesitated to ask questions, they seemed stimulated and got relaxed with detailed and much comprehensive explanations from specialists of RCAST.

The University of Tokyo and Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich have concluded the agreement on scientific, educational and cultural cooperation since 1997. Since then, students of the Munich University have visited Japan in the almost every summer for interchanging with the students of liberal arts at the University of Tokyo learning German. It is hoped that various academic interactions will flourish more in future through this exchange program.
