  • “Thinking Rite—The University of Tokyo Seminar Series” by Dr. Naphtali Meshel (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem), Dr. Hillel Mali (New York University) and Dr. Anand Mishra (Heidelberg University) was held on June 13th, 20th, 27th, 2021 in the framework of the international research project “Humanitas Futura: Constructing an International Research Network for the Study of Philosophy and Religion.”

This research seminar series was organized for the aim of presenting some of the achievements of the research group “Thinking Rite,” and some of the challenges and major questions that remain open. Most of the discussions revolved around a new approach towards the intertwined ritual systems of sacrifice and purity, with emphasis on the significance of the comparative study between the Hebrew Bible/ancient Judaism and Indian religions. Around thirty researchers from different fields attended the seminar at every session.

This research seminar series was held under the auspices of ROLES (RCAST Open Laboratory for Emergence Strategies) and jointly funded by the Religion and Global Security Division, Ikeuchi Laboratory of RCAST, the University of Tokyo and the Institute for Advanced Global Studies (IAGS), the University of Tokyo.

Humanitas Futura project was initiated by the Religion and Global Security Division, Ikeuchi Laboratory, of the RCAST of the University of Tokyo, with Dr. Koji Yamashiro as curator/coordinator, for the purpose of reforming the field of Humanities, both in method and substance.

Based on the comprehensive agreement between the University of Tokyo and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Humanitas Futura project is in progress of integrating specialists in diverse areas of the study of philosophy and religion around the world.
