The Religion and Global Security Division, Ikeuchi Laboratory held a special lecture on the Abrahamic Religions entitled “The Comparative Study of the Abrahamic Religions: Heuristic Gains and Cognitive Pitfalls” by Prof. Guy Stroumsa, Martin Buber Professor Emeritus of Comparative Religion at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Professor Emeritus of the Study of the Abrahamic Religions at the University of Oxford. More than eighty participants gave ear to the insightful talk of Prof. Stroumsa, which was followed by provocative comments of chosen panelists.
This lecture was the concluding event of the “Israel Week @UTokyo Komaba Research Campus,” which was held during the week of March 1-5, 2021 in the form of a series of webinars on a variety of topics, all of which aimed at the collaborative exchange of ideas between researchers and experts from academia, NPOs, industry and the public sector on the background of the recent trends and developments in Israel and its impact on Japan-Israel relations.
This lecture was also a spin-off of the international research project “Humanitas Futura: Constructing an International Research Network for the Study of Philosophy and Religion” (Project researcher: Dr. Koji Yamashiro), which evolves around the academic partnership between the University of Tokyo and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
“Israel Week @UTokyo Komaba Research Campus” was organized by ROLES (RCAST Open Laboratory for Emergence Strategies) in cooperation with IIS (the Institute for Industrial Science) of the University of Tokyo and supported by the Embassy of Israel in Japan.
This event was part of a research project funded by a research grant by MOFA of Japan.
