RCAST signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Cambridge in 2005 to develop a comprehensive partnership with the English university. Now, with the support of several Asian universities, the construction of the Salje Building, a new center for international interaction, has been completed, and Director Nakano was invited to participate in the opening ceremony. The new building will house students and Visiting Fellows.

Based on its agreement with Cambridge, RCAST has priority in sending researchers as Visiting Fellows. To date, Professors Takehiko Hashimoto (Science and Technology), Mariko Fujii (Finance) and Satoshi Ikeuchi (Islamic Political Thought) have spent periods of three to six months at Cambridge to engage in research. With the completion of the new building, Clare Hall, the University of Cambridge and RCAST look forward to increased interaction.
