Development of advanced manufacturing processes for next-generation optical components

Light, covering from terahertz radiation to X-rays, can be controlled by optics such as mirror and lens, so as to maximize the ability of the optical system. It is no exaggeration to say that the performance of various technology utilizing light is determined by the quality of optical components. Cutting-edge optical components are necessary to meet the advanced scientific and social needs of the future.

In this research group, we will develop manufacturing processes for advanced optical components based on AI technology, in order to meet the demands of diversifying optical systems. We will focus on: 1. development of a hybrid optical design theory combining geometrical and wave optics; 2. development of ultra-precise mirror/ lens fabrication processes based on nanometer-precision machining, measurement, and replication; 3. research on environmentally friendly manufacturing processes in response to SDGs; 4. research on automation of mirror/lens manufacturing by using robots and AI.
