Research Interests
Our current research interests include:
(1) Changes in the mean state of the atmospheric circulation and associated modulations in its natural variability under anthropogenic global warming; uncertainties in future climate projections arising from the presence of natural variability.
(2) Dynamical mechanisms and predictability of anomalous atmospheric circulation that gives rise to extreme weather conditions, including the meander of jetstreams.
(3) The role of ocean-atmosphere interaction in the formation and dominant variability of the extra-tropical atmospheric circulation, including the impact of recent ocean warming, especially marine heatwaves, on torrential rain events and atmospheric heatwaves.
(4) PI of “ClimCORE” project, which aims at producing high-resolution (5km, hourly) atmospheric reanalysis data around Japan and promoting its use in various fields in the society.
